Rip rap & Armour rock

On November 4th 2016, UN members entered into a global climate action treaty commonly known as “The Paris Agreement”. Its overarching goal is to limit the global average temperature increase to 1.5.C by the end of this century. Scientists have modelled that with the current melting of glaciers and ice sheets in Greenland and Antarctica, tracking on our current course could see our sea level rise by 1000mm over the next century. This is 10mm every decade.

This modelling has put pressure on the New Zealand government to introduce immediate climate action policy. This includes prioritising the improvement of river revetments and sea wall defenses in order to protect critical infrastructure and low lying suburbs. Rip rap and rock armour sourced from Taranaki deposits have been identified as key materials for the construction in the river revetments seawall defense structures throughout the Lower North Island.

In recent years, South Taranaki Quarries have begun specialising in the production and supply of spec rip rap and armour rock and have been involved in the supply of rock for a number critical infrastructure projects. We are now very well resourced to continue supporting the New Zealand government in its quest to combat climate change.
