About Us

Jarrod Nicholson and his father, Bruce, set up South Taranaki Quarries as family run operation from scratch back in 2006. They supplied their first load of shellrock from the Maxwell site in September of 2007 and have never looked back. Jarrod was instrumental in creating what was formerly Maxwell Quarry, now trading as South Taranaki Quarries.

In November of 2016, Maxwell Quarry took over ‘Grant Cudby Contracting’ which was an aggregate supply company with quarry sites located in Hawera and Opunake. Grant Cudby continued managing operations for both the Hawera and Opunake sites until January 2018 when he formally became the Quarries Manager for South Taranaki Quarries. Grant is an A Grade Certificate of Competence holder and has over 30 years of industry experience.  Todd Nicholson is the newest member of the management group and joined the team in June of 2017 after spending 14 years Australia.

Each site has a small friendly team of experienced heavy machinery operators that work to a plan that ensures a consistent quality supply of aggregates is achieved. South Taranaki Quarries are constantly evaluating and re-evaluating their operations programme, not only from a safety perspective but right through to its customer satisfaction. The management group work regularly with industry experts and quarry consultants to ensure that best practises are taking place.
